Kenneth Mark Hillman AO is an Australian intensive care physician, researcher, and Emeritus Professor of Intensive Care at the University of New South Wales (UNSW), specializing in health services research with a focus on end-of-life care, patient safety innovations, and reducing non-beneficial treatments for critically ill patients. Hillman pioneered the medical emergency team (MET) system, a rapid response protocol for deteriorating hospital patients that has been widely adopted to improve outcomes and prevent cardiac arrests, earning him the 1998 NSW Premier’s Public Sector Award and recognition on the Australian & New Zealand Intensive Care Society Honour Roll in 2011.
